IRONY! Obama “asks” Networks to Preempt for Him
Well, as the old saying goes, karma is a bitch. If that is the case, than what we have here is a deliciously rich case of it.
One that is richer in irony calories and schadenfreude then your average Julia Child cake. Not very nutritious, but very filling and tasty to those that hope that the network types choke on this.
You have to say one thing, at least things with an Obama administration are never boring and quite occasionally, gut-bustingly humorous.
From Washington Post TV writer Lisa de Moraes (Hat Tip: NewsBusters)
President Obama’s desire to talk — and talk, and talk — to the American public could cost broadcast networks millions, and millions, and millions of prime-time TV dollars.
Broadcasters are bracing themselves for the likelihood of three prime-time interruptions in three weeks, totaling at least three hours of prime time — and ad breaks — yanked.
“His economic stimulus package apparently does not extend to the TV networks,” one network exec noted.
Obama’s reps have alerted broadcasters that the president will hold a news conference Monday, according to network execs. It’s expected to eat up the first hour of prime time; that alone could cost broadcasters more than $9 million in lost ad revenue….
“Notice they’re not going on Friday or Saturday,” one network exec complained. “They’re . . . preempting our better shows. You’re not happy to lose a ‘House’ if you are Fox, or two of the better comedies at CBS, or ‘The Bachelor’ at ABC — we’re all going to take a bath.”
I find it more than a bit hypocritical for network executives to be whining about Obama preempting their shows (and therefore their ad revenue), when for the past two years they have been the pimps in the greatest Media Orgy in the history of mankind. It was All Obama, All of the Time. To the point where more than a few million were sick of seeing this guy’s face plastered on every TV screen no matter where you went on the remote. (Remember stations like the Golf Channel and Game Show Network trying to cash in on his inauguration? That already seems like an eon ago).
I now wonder how the DNC Media likes this little taste of the Censorship Doctrine? Maybe now they will feel a little sympathy for the radio networks?
In a pig’s eye!
