Islamic games cancelled in Arab-Iran row over Persian Gulf name

The Islamic Solidarity Games, designed to strengthen ties among Muslim nations, have been cancelled after a dispute between Arab countries and Iran over the name of the waterway dividing them.

The Saudi-based Islamic Solidarity Games Federation says they cancelled the sporting event, which were meant to be held in Tehran in the spring, after Iran put “Persian Gulf” on the logo.

Arabs call the waterway the Arabian Gulf and many were offended by references to its other common name.

I suppose it could have been worse. They could have put ImInAJihad’s face on that logo.

A woman jumped the barriers in St. Peter’s Basilica and knocked down Pope Benedict XVI as he walked down the main aisle to begin Christmas Eve Mass on Thursday.

The 82-year-old pope quickly got up and was unhurt, said a Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Ciro Benedettini. Footage aired on Italy’s RAI state TV showed a woman dressed in a red jumper vaulting over the wooden barriers and rushing the pope before being swarmed by bodyguards.

At 82 years old, a fall could be quite serious, even though the Pope appears to be in very good shape for a man his age.

Benedettini said the woman who pushed the pope appeared to be mentally unstable and had been arrested by Vatican police. He said she also knocked down Cardinal Roger Etchegaray, who was taken to hospital for a check up.

Well, of course she is mentally unstable. She is obviously a disciple of the ACORN/SEIU School of Dissent.
