The Obama War on the Private Sector Continues: “For Profit Companies” to have Paid Internships Stripped
How convenient. Take away incentive from private companies to offer internships. This would not lead to an increase of “community organizing” internships at places like ACORN, the SEIU or the Center for American Progress, now would it?
From The Washington Times Blog: (Hat Tip: Hot Air)
The New York Times reported that Nancy J. Leppink, the acting director of the department’s wage and hour division said, “If you’re a for-profit employer or you want to pursue an internship with a for-profit employer, there aren’t going to be many circumstances where you can have an internship and not be paid and still be in compliance with the law.”
The unemployment rate among teenagers and college students is at 26 percent, and if companies are forced through government regulation to pay these interns, companies will look re-work their budgets to be in compliance, and less students will be offered internships. This means less students can be brought in and gain valuable experience in a work place environment. The federal government is attempting to change the entire point of gaining work place skills and create yet another under – served demographic of victims falling prey to private sector companies.
It is amusing to see the Obama administration creating the image of poorly treated unpaid interns, when Mr. Obama’s Organizing for America offered internships to help elect the president in during his presidential campaign and are still offering up unpaid internships today. The Summer organizing program also does not even offer food, transportation, or housing stipends[.]
Message to teens looking to acquire job skills: “Don’t dirty your hands by helping out a GREEDY, EVIL, PROFIT MAKING company and learning skills that would actually help them and you to selfishly provide for yourself. No, come to Community Organizer U and we shall teach you all of the skills needed to rabble-rouse, agitate, disrupt, vandalize, assault and mouth the words of the Alinskyite.”
Best comment:
Hilarious… you have to pay up to be turned into an alinskyite…
But I’m sort of a hypocrite… I interned at one of our (government) national labs and got paid handsomely for it… no way I would have done it for free…
I think the internships should be structured to promote maximum engagement… the people who will get hardest by this minimum wage rule are high schoolers and college freshmen… after they’re decimated and youth unemployment reaches a crises they’ll all be herded into rigged alinskyite “volunteer” programs… and then businesses will be taxed to pay for their college education…

So it appears that the Hare Krishnas and rude ticket agents are not the only ones you have to avoid at the airport nowadays.
