A Geography Lesson on Unemployment

Posted by NosferatusCoffin | May 19th, 2010

Here is a nice little slideshow showing unemployment by region since the Democrat takeover of Congress in January 2007.

Hat Tip: American Observer via Free Conservatives: (Click link or image to play slideshow)

One thing that sticks out is that from the Midwest to the East Coast, the only pocket of sub-6% unemployment rates are in the Northern VA/DC/Suburban MD areas. Which just also happens to be where most federal government workers are concentrated.

And not by accident.

Obama: “I do think at a certain point, you’ve made enough money”

Posted by Talismen | April 29th, 2010

Ahh yes….According to his hind-ass, some of us are making “enough money”. How dare we want more. How dare we make more. How dare we want to have a better life for ourselves. Then, in the same breathe, he turns around and admits that us “producers” (my word, not his) should keep right along “producing”.

Turns out…He went off script for this little utterance of redistributive truth.

I swear…Some people are living proof that sometimes the after birth does live and thrive:

H/T: HotAir:
(snip)

We’re not, we’re not trying to push financial reform because we begrudge success that’s fairly earned. I mean, I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money. But, you know, part of the American way is, you know, you can just keep on making it if you’re providing a good product or providing good service. We don’t want people to stop, ah, fulfilling the core responsibilities of the financial system to help grow our economy.

Compare that to his remarks as prepared for delivery:

Now, we’re not doing this to punish these firms or begrudge success that’s fairly earned. We don’t want to stop them from fulfilling their responsibility to help grow our economy.

Note the term: “…fulfilling their responsibility to help grow our economy.”
Oh I get it. Now it’s our responsibility, ay? What about YOUR responsibility mr president? To ALL Americans,…To incentivize small business? To promote economic growth via free markets that are allowed to grow without being punished by government?

Nevermind dude….This is WAY over your alinsky-tained kool-aid drinkin’ head.

Lies, Damned Lies and White House Statistics

Posted by NosferatusCoffin | April 19th, 2010

Just like all of those unicorns flying in the air spitting Skittles out their asses and all the 10.6 trillion jobs that were “saved” in Arizona’s 99th district, here is proof that we truly are living in a Star Trek Mirror Universe.

From Big Government:

The number of jobs in the U.S. is currently 129.7 million. So to justify the Administration’s current claim of 2.8 million jobs “created or saved” by stimulus, they need to also claim that without that stimulus there would be only 126.9 million jobs. That’s exactly what they do, displayed as the “baseline projection” level in the graphic below from an April 14, 2010 report:

An inconvenient truth, at least for the Obama Administration, is that once upon a time, in their January 2009 Romer/Bernstein Report they told America that without their stimulus there would be 133.9 million jobs. That’s right, in order to make it look like their stimulus has “created or saved” 2.8 million jobs, the Obama Administration first had to whack 7 million jobs from their previous estimates.

Here’s the math:

Step 1: How many jobs does the Administration currently claim there would be, without stimulus?

129.7 million Current number of U.S. jobs

- 2.8 million Jobs currently claimed to be “created or saved”

126.9 million Jobs the Administration currently claims there would be without stimulus

Step 2: How does that compare with the number of jobs the Administration used to say there would be without stimulus?

133.9 million January 2009 projection of jobs without stimulus

- 126.9 million Current claim of jobs without stimulus

= 7 million Jobs removed from the Administration “baseline” to justify their latest stimulus job creation claims

This is hardly unique, since everything in a DC budget is based on a “baseline”. Which in plain English is, say a government agency is due an increase of 12% for the next fiscal year, but in the end has it’s budget increased by only 7%. In WashingtonSpeak, this is called a “5% budget cut”, while to sane people, it is a 7% increase.

However, these clowns have taken the bastardization of the language to new heights (or lows, if you prefer). Even taking a sledgehammer to your noggin 100 times for the next hour will not make these Madoff numbers add up. (With apologies to Madoff, since his schemes did not and will not bankrupt an entire nation).

Obama’s Jobless “Recovery”: 33 States Run Out of Unemployment Funds

Posted by NosferatusCoffin | April 9th, 2010

And to think, Obama “saved” this country from economic ruin.

From CNN Money(Hat Tip – Sweetness and Light):

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — With unemployment still at a severe high, a majority of states have drained their jobless benefit funds, forcing them to borrow billions from the federal government to help out-of-work Americans.

A total of 33 states and the Virgin Islands have depleted their funds and borrowed more than $38.7 billion to provide a safety net, according to a report released Thursday by the National Employment Law Project. Four others are at the brink of insolvency.

Debt-challenged California has borrowed the most, totaling more than $8.4 billion, followed by Michigan and New York, which have loans worth more than $3 billion. Nine other states have borrowed at least $1 billion from the federal government.

“The nation’s financing system for jobless benefits is under unprecedented stress,” said Andrew Stettner, deputy director of the New York-based advocacy group for the unemployed. “While the recession has certainly made things worse, this funding crisis has been developing for years.”

At the onset of the recession, only 19 states met the recommended funding level, which is one year of reserves equal to the highest amount of unemployment insurance paid out during prior recessions…

Federal and state governments collect money for unemployment benefits by taxing employers on a small portion of their employee wages. While total wages and weekly jobless benefit levels have been rising, governments haven’t increased the taxable base wages at the same pace.

Now look at those top three three states. Blue, extremely union-friendly and run by economic illiterates and leftist ideological masturbators.

And the last line about how “governments haven’t increased the taxable base wages at the same pace”. What a laugh. Those state governments do not have these funds because over 8 million people have lost their jobs since the Democrat takeover of Congress in 2007. You know, it is hard to keep funds in an unemployment pool when there are fewer and fewer people actually working to contribute to such a find. And of course, the old, tired Democrat answer will be what else, but, raise taxes.

As S&L says:

But still. It is quite sobering to see so many states on the brink of not being able to pay unemployment benefits.

Especially since the recession has been over for such a long time now.

Amen.

Obama levels the ‘playing field’: When everyone’s poor, no one will be

Posted by Talismen | March 10th, 2010

Liberalism cannot exist without convincing the masses that there are those within society that cannot and should not care for themselves, no matter the reason, rhyme or consequence. It is from that basis alone that democrats, “progressives”, socialists, marxists (etc) will all agree that a certain degree of dependence upon government is essential to the “well being of society”. Ask and your government shall give, knock and your government will open the door. After all, what kind of government would turn away those truly in need, right?

Ahhh yes…But at what cost, and in what form? Have you ever asked yourself, what does government get out of the deal? Think about this for a moment….

When a person agrees to accept help, of any kind, from government, they by default agree to give up a part of their lives. Don’t believe me? Try this on for size…

A person who applies for food stamps is allowed to make a small amount of money, without the amount affecting their total allowance of food stamps on a regular basis. So, say you’ve lost your job, are on food stamps, and finally find a job that could get you back on your feet again. It doesn’t pay quite enough to cover everything, but, it’s a start, and a foot in the door. For the moment, you need the food stamps to “fill the gap”. But, the government finds out and takes away part of your food stamps. Oops…there goes the “gap”.

You see…government will gladly be your “sugar daddy”, if you agree not to strive too hard to better yourself and your situation. Government assistance is easy to get, and easy to live on, if one believes they really have no reason to better themselves or their situations in the first place. Hey! Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free, right?

Then, those folks who manage to better their lives and get a good paying job, are eventually taxed higher, and higher, as they climb up the income bracket, by a punitive tax system that robs from the so-called “rich”, and gives to….well, gives to whomever happens to be on the government dole at the time.

Ergo – if you find yourself on the good side of the government’s “naughty and nice” list, kicking back, getting checks in the mail, enjoying food stamps, and tax credits a-plenty…Just remember that you’ve also give up your right to do better.

Slavery didn’t end in 1865 — it just took on a different form.

And now obama wants to make sure that even more of us are considered “poor”, so we’ll come crawling to uncle sam for a hand-out, and thus be placed on the rolls and under ‘nanny state’ control.

The interesting thing about our modern-day definition of “poor”?
Read here: Understanding Poverty in America

h/t: Townhall
(snip)

*Nearly 40 percent of all poor households actually own their own homes. On average, this is a three-bedroom house with one-and-a-half baths, a garage, and a porch or patio.

*Eighty-four percent of poor households have air conditioning. By contrast, in 1970, only 36 percent of the entire U.S. population enjoyed air conditioning.

*Nearly two-thirds of the poor have cable or satellite TV.

*Only 6 percent of poor households are over?crowded; two-thirds have more than two rooms per person.

*The typical poor American has as much or more living space than the average individual living in most European countries. (These comparisons are to the average citizens in foreign countries, not to those classified as poor.)

*Nearly three-quarters of poor households own a car; 31 percent own two or more cars.

*Ninety-eight percent of poor households have a color television; two-thirds own two or more color televisions.

*Eighty-two percent own microwave ovens; 67 percent have a DVD player; 73 percent have a VCR; 47 percent have a computer.

Government is your friend…As long as you have no other ‘friends’ before it.

Now, bow down and worship your political ‘messiah’….ey?

Harry Reid: “Only 36,000 Lost Their Jobs Today”

Posted by NosferatusCoffin | March 5th, 2010

Time for the rubber room.

Ah, and now President “I am going to lower the oceans” has chimed in.

From The Hill: (Hat Tip: Michelle Malkin)

President Barack Obama boasted Friday that his economic recovery efforts were showing results after the national unemployment rate stayed at a steady 9.7 percent for February.

Obama, touring a small business in Arlington, Va., said that the 36,000 jobs lost last month was ‘actually better than expected’ considering the massive snowstorms that devastated the East Coast.

So those Global Climate Warming Change blizzards not only caused STDs on snail darters and contaminated Michelle Obama’s veggie garden, but now it causes unemployment, too? Who knew?

Well, in November well over 100+ Democrats will be losing their jobs. And that is a VERY, VERY, VERY GOOD thing. (I might revise the Sanity poll numbers up, since it is not out of of the realm of possibility that the Dems could lose 150-175 seats)

Remember, the only sector where employment is booming is at the government level and every time a bureaucrat or phony ACORN Census worker is hired, someone in the private sector has to pay for that job. It is not “paid for” from Obama’s “Stash” (aka the Obama Slush Fund, aka the Porkulus, aka The Generational Theft Act)

Thanks for yet another campaign ad, Dems. You are making this too easy.

Google’s 3rd QTR Profits: $1.6 Billion; Class Warfare Dems Silent

Posted by NosferatusCoffin | October 15th, 2009

So, making a profit is A-OK. As long as you are Democrat cash cow. Not like those eeeevil oil and insurance companies.

From BBC News:

Google has reported its highest quarterly profit, suggesting that the internet advertising market is bouncing back from the recession.

Google reported net profit of $1.64bn (£1bn) for the third quarter, a 27% increase on the same period a year ago.

Revenue for the three-month period came in at $4.38bn, which was well ahead of analysts’ expectations of $1.29bn.

“The worst of the recession is clearly behind us,” said Google chief executive Eric Schmidt.

“Because of what we have seen, we now have the confidence to be optimistic about our future.”

Google’s shares rose $16.44, or 3.1%, to $546.35 in extended trading.

Of course, according to Harry “$41 billion is a drop in the bucket” Reid, if say, an up and coming business made this kind of quarterly profit , he would be calling for their heads, their wallets and their firstborn.

Also, I must disagree with two items in the story.

- “They did great on every single metric. We think this is sustainable.”

If that person is referring to their services, he is a Google-Ade Drinker. Personally, I place most Google apps at the bottom of the barrel. Gmail is the worst webmail client out there, hands down. It is clunky, down a lot and a royal pain in the a** to code for, as it has zero support for external CSS, while all other webmail clients worth their salt support it just fine.

Analytics is a joke as it can undercount true site traffic by as much as 80% or more.

- “Bing is too tiny now”

That may be the case for the moment, but here is one time that Microsoft appears to have gotten it right. The Bing platform looks for more extensible than the Google’s API ever will be.

And the Google search engine is and in my opinion has always been overrated and lackluster. Add the cherry-picking they do with their algorithims to push forward leftist and porn sites and they are pretty useless as a search engine nowadays. That is one reason I use Bing about 90% of the time for searches nowadays as it is actually a search engine and not a political form.

I have been a major Microsoft basher for over 20 years, but I think with Windows 7 and Bing, they are poised for a comeback and can give Google serious trouble. I remember back around ’98 telling my fellow techie roommate that Microsoft would be fairly irrelevant inside of 10 years, and aside from the OS market, that is true. I predict the same for Google, except I expect them to fall sooner.
