Palin’s Book Sells a Staggering 300,000 Copies in First Day

Posted by NosferatusCoffin | November 20th, 2009

Not bad for a supposed country bumpkin and hick who is so “stupid” that the Left has to make up plagarized copies of her book so that they can try to make money off of her coattails.

From The Daily Beast: (Hat Tip: Stop the ACLU)

Going Rogue is going gangbusters, and it looks like both Palin and her publisher, HarperCollins, are going to make some serious money off of it. According to industry insiders, Palin got a $7 million advance for her book. She’s earning a royalty rate of 15 percent, which means she makes $4.35 per book sold, and therefore needs to sell 1.6 million books to earn out her advance. The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that HarperCollins had printed another 100,000 copies of Going Rogue, bringing the total in print to 1.6 million. Palin would need to sell all of those to earn out her advance, so it’s unlikely that’s going to happen.

But HarperCollins will be making money long before that. There’s a rule of thumb in the industry that publishers net about $10 per hardcover sold, after expenses, but before the cost of theadvance. Once she’s sold 700,000 copies, then, HarperCollins is in the black. And what of that 1.6 million printed? An ideal “sell-through” rate is about 75 percent, which means HarperCollins thinks it’s going to sell about 1.2 million copies. At that level, Palin will have made $7 million and HarperCollins $5 million of its own.

A HarperCollins insider told The Daily Beast that the book sold a staggering 300,000 copies on the first day alone, which was Tuesday. “Sales are phenomenal, and we are convinced that the book will continue to sell phenomenally for some time to come,” says the insider. They’re not prevaricating: As of 2:30pm today, the book was #1 on Amazon, ahead of both Stephen King’s new novel, Under the Dome, and Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol. The latter sold 1 million copies on its first day, but that figure included the UK, and top fiction generally trumps non-fiction. Any way you carve it, GoingRogue looks to be a $12 million goldmine.

And as Obama’s numbers begin to plummet so much that even Gallup is no longer trying to hide it, Palin’s are rising.

Despite being characterized by many as a divisive force in her party and the nation, former vice-presidential contender Sarah Palin gets a much higher positive rating than Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi — and most think Palin has been treated unfairly by the press.

As Sarah Palin blankets the media on a whirlwind book promotion tour, the former vice-presidential contender is clearly back on America’s radar screen. Despite being characterized by many as a divisive force in her party and the nation, Americans are much more likely to give Palin a positive rating (47 percent favorable) than another prominent female leader — Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (28 percent favorable). Moreover, about six in 10 Americans (61 percent) think Palin has been treated unfairly by the press, according to the latest Fox News poll.

47 percent. That is about where Obama is right now. Think about that for moment. A man who was and still is given a free pass on EVERYTHING and ANYTHING is limping along with the worst poll numbers at this point into a first term presidency since modern polling began. While a woman who underwent the worst political and media gangrape in modern times is already tied with him and only going up.

Oh by the way, she actually wrote her book.

Criminalizing dissent

Posted by Talismen | November 19th, 2009

Since the beginnings of the obama administration, we have seen time and time again how his policies (and those who share his mind-set) intend to criminalize political dissent.

Rest assured, the impact of Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin (and others), who champion common sense and rail against political idiocy, is felt every minute of every day in the obama/biden administration. They know that now is the time, if they dare go that far, to officially quash dissent by making it as illegal as possible.

In truth, they might as well just slap a piece of duct tape onto the lapels of every one who dares to criticize or question this administration. That way, the dissenter-in-question could be known to all who see them, and thus expose themselves as being “against the state”. Somewhat like the Jews of old, after Hitler’s rise to power, who were mandated to wear the yellow star-of-David patches. (Guess we know what happened to them, huh?)

This morning, I found this piece by Hans over at NRO’s “The Corner” blog, which spells out clearly just why the possibility for dissent criminalization has become very real, just within the past few weeks. (Embedded links can also be accessed within the “Corner” piece, so be sure to click the link to access those and read the rest of the article).

Dissent Is Criminal [Hans A. von Spakovsky]

Bob Bauer, the husband of Anita “My Favorite Political Philosopher Is Mao” Dunn, has been appointed as the new White House counsel. I know Bob, and on an everyday level he is a polite gentleman with a great family history. But he is not someone you want to face on the other side of a court case or a political battle because he is a fierce partisan who does not believe in taking prisoners. No one should forget that it was Bauer, as the general counsel for the Obama presidential campaign, who wrote a letter to the Justice Department on October 17, 2008, asking that a special prosecutor investigate Republicans like John McCain for talking publicly about voter fraud. According to Bauer, such talk was not only evidence of a “partisan political agenda,” but supposedly intended to “suppress voting” by harassing voters and impeding “their exercise of their rights.”

Hmmm….Does “Goo Gone” remove duct tape stick-em from a fine wool cardigan?

2009 Off-Year Elections: The Rise of the Citizen

Posted by NosferatusCoffin | November 4th, 2009

If absolutely nothing else comes of the 2009 election season, one thing is clear. The populace is 1) angry, 2) frustrated with their government on most every level and 3) will take matters into their own hands in order to change the political landscape. And many of those who had never paid much attention to politics before are now the seeds that are transforming the way elections might be run for the foreseeable future.

A lot can, has been and will be read into last night’s results. From the network and cable news pundits to the largest political sites and forums to the smallest blogger, there will be an extraordinary amount of analysis of what is usually a boring and little noticed election cycle.

However, in my opinion, the most important events happened before the first ballot was cast. And the most important of those were that a good percentage of the American citizenry decided to finally start taking matters into their own hands and shedding the snakeskin of the political class, who for far too long have “spoken” for them, even as most of that class worked against them, overtly or covertly. The rise of the Tea Party, the elevation of the Town Hall and the return of a true citizen candidate is transforming the very fundamentals of the political landscape of this country to it’s very roots. Even as the Political Class looks it’s nose down at such rabble and brushes them off as one would a tick on a hot summer day.

The Rise of the Citizen goes way beyond the usual and predictable Party/Talking Points/Media babble that has so dominated the political conversation for far too many decades. It is grassroots at it’s finest and was seen most clearly as an election consequence in the NY-23 race.

For here, the disconnect between the Political Class and the Citizen was at it’s most stark. A few powerful party leaders bypass the usual party primary, select a candidate that is the ultimate political cross-dresser and pour tons of money into her campaign. When it leaks out that the political cross-dresser is a radical leftist, they circle their wagons, bring in some aging, political big guns to help shore up the cross-dresser’s support. All the while, derisively sliming all those that question the troubled nomination in the first place.

And then, almost suddenly, like a David taking on Goliath, a Citizen Candidate emerges from nowhere, energizes both the local populace and catches the notice of highly influential conservatives the country over and with just a matter of a few weeks of campaigning nearly pulls off a stunning win.

It just goes to show that the days of being led by staid party leaders, recycling endless campaign money and uttering empty, predictable and shallow media bytes in order to achieve a “victory” that usually ends up in an appeasing and spineless victor are over. Like a football team building from the ground up with a new owner, GM and head coach, the whole gameplan and playbook have changed dramatically.

Party leaders on both sides ignore this at their peril.

Thou Shall: 3,345 Times – GOP Claims That PelosiCare Bill Creates 111 New Bureaucracies

Posted by NosferatusCoffin | November 3rd, 2009

Halloween may be over, but the Health Care Zombie has only just started clawing at his grave. And his stench is only becoming more noisome as the days goes by.

As the Pelosi “deadline” for the House vote on her bloated, $1.2 trillion health care “reform” package approaches, (vote scheduled to take place on Thursday night/Friday) more details of this FedZilla monstrosity of a bill are coming to light.

Side Note: At 1,990 pages and a cost of $1.2 trillion, that is a cost of $603,015,075.38 per page. I wonder where the howls of Earth First/Man Last are? I can think of better uses for all of that paper. And I am sure you can, too. And without using one curse word to boot.

From FOX News: (Hat Tip – FC)

House Republicans claimed Monday that the health care reform bill pushed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi would create a whopping 111 new “federal bureaucracies.”

In its latest attempt to portray the Democrats’ reform package as an unwieldy expansion of federal government in the health care sector, the House Republican Conference circulated what it called a list of “new boards, bureaucracies, commissions and programs” created in the House health care bill.

Among some off the new agencies, the list cites a Health Insurance Exchange; the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation; the Public Health Investment Fund; the Public Health Workforce Corps; an Assistant Secretary for Health Information; the Food and Drug Administration Office of Women’s Health; grant programs for alternative medical liability laws, infant mortality programs and other issues; and about 100 other government-sponsored creations.

“That ought to tell you all that we need to know, that we’re going to have 1,990 pages of legislation,” House Minority Leader John Boehner said in an interview Sunday. “The word ‘shall’ exists in this bill 3,345 times.”

The list underscores the GOP complaint that the health care reform bill over-burdens taxpayers and the government itself. Republicans said Monday they plan to read aloud the massive bill — in the space of four hours — on the House floor Tuesday.

A Democratic source dismissed the list of “bureaucracies” as an exaggeration, calling them “demonstration projects” instead.

“Demonstration projects”. Ha! Another long-used Marxist Cloak Term that means a new bureaucracy and therefore, more bureaucrats. As Reagan said, a government bureaucracy is the closest thing to Eternal Life. Just as “city bonds” are just another term for “raising taxes”. Which, incidentally, is why I vote against every bond that appears on any ballot I fill out.

Also, if you can make it, be sure to attend Rep. Michelle Bachmann’s Rally on the Capitol Steps on Thursday.

Let that be a lesson to ‘ya! – The “Scozzafava” heard ’round the world….

Posted by Talismen | November 2nd, 2009

Today, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) and the RNC itself must be held-up in a corner of some remote cave, licking their political wounds.

And let’s not forget Newt Gingrich….Who shocked conservative circles around the country when he endorsed Dede Scozzafava in the NY-23 congressional race. Scozzafava, who even by modern definitions is so left of center that she barely falls into the category of “RINO”, was endorsed by all the above…Newt, the NRCC, the NRSC and Michael Steele of the RNC. As Michelle Malkin put it:
(snip)

Scozzafava isn’t just “anybody who doesn’t agree with us 100 percent.”

She’s an ACORN-Friendly, Big Labor-Backing, Tax-and-Spend, Margaret Sanger Award-Winning Radical in GOP Clothing — a left-wing saboteur who seeks to marginalize mainstream conservatism with conservatives’ own money.

(Click the purple links in the quote above for more info….)

I wonder if Scozzafava’s endorsement of the democrat still in the running against Doug Hoffman finally taught the supposed GOP leadership a lesson?

Let’s hope so…Because the “Scozzafava Affair” has become a modern-day version of “The Shot Heard ‘Round The World” for the GOP establishment.

No longer will we blindly accept the crap you’re shovelin’!
No longer will we embrace and mimic (even to a small degree) the stances and ideology of the left, in order to bring those who claim they are “moderate” into the “big tent” of the GOP.

No sir…No Ma’am!
That ends here.

And the rebuilding begins….Now!
If you’re not going to pony-up and lead the party by effectively communicating politically conservative ideology to the voting populace, then get out of the way, and let “nature” take its course! We’ll pick the leaders, campaign for them, donate time and money to them, and tell YOU to support them! Remember, that’s how this “game” is supposed to be played?!

Newt had it all wrong on Scozzafava.
We can no longer look at charts and statistics and say “well, this candidate more closely represents what the numbers indicate as being the political make-up of their district (or state)”. Forget the numbers. Forget the charts. Forget the stats. Why not try what works….Actual politically conservative ideals!

I shouldn’t have to list these, but I will:

-Lower taxes
-Less government
-More individual freedom

I could go on, but I think the point is made.

If the “Tea Parties” did one thing for the conservative (and moderate) voting population in this country, it allowed civic-minded people of all ages and backgrounds to get a refresher course on just how our system of government is supposed to work. It allowed them to see that things haven’t been right for a long long time, and obama is but a small cog in the huge “wheel” of a political machinery gone wrong. No no…This voter angst has been building for quite some time, and obama and those who share his ideology simply provided the “steam” needed to finally awaken the “conservative giant” from its fitfull slumber.

Those “Tea Parties” and townhall events are political “pressure valves”, where those who are tired of being ignored, belittled, and betrayed by most elected officials in Washington, can give voice to their concerns, frustrations and calls for action!

Even before a ballot is cast in the November 2009 elections, the “Scozzafava Affair” will go down in history as being the “warning shot” put across the “bow” of the supposed GOP “leadership”.

For those within GOP “leadership” positions or PAC’s…Take the hint….This is only the beginning.

We’re paying attention.
We’re marking the time.
And we vote…According to conservative ideals, and not those of our supposed leadership. And the more you castigate those who even lean to the right for not doing as you say, the more you’ll prove yourselves unworthy of the votes and money you cannot operate without.

Can you hear us now?
Dede Scozzafava can….
